Mentorship Program

Information

Have you ever wondered what it's like to work in a biotech/pharmaceutical industry? Are you interested in pursuing a career in industry, but have so many questions on where to start? Do you want a Mentor who is working at an industry to give you guidance, connections, and help you on your career path? Then you should join the ISPE Mentorship Program! All majors are welcome!

What is it?

The Mentorship Program is a wonderful opportunity for you to be assigned to your very own mentor who works at an industry!

What to I Gain by Becoming a Mentee?

Through this unique and interpersonal experience, your mentor will broaden your learning of what it's like to work in a biotech/pharmaceutical industry and help you become future leaders in science. Benefits include:
  • Enhance your own understanding of issues such as multiculturalism, community involvement, and leadership through a mentor-mentee relationship
  • Receive positive influence from your mentor through personal and professional development.
  • Have you questions and concerns answered from the advice and wisdom of your mentor.
  • Network with other professionals in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Invitation to three exclusive events where you will dine alongside your mentor

Expectations

How long does the program last?

If you’re interested, the Mentorship Program covers the time period between November and June.

What are the commitments?

Mentees are required to meet with their assigned mentor at least once per quarter (every three months). Additionally, throughout the year, there will be 3 ISPE organized events requiring attendance by both the mentor and mentee, one of which will be the opening ceremony. We also ask that mentees communicate with mentors (such as through emails) to ask any questions you may have about the industry.

What else can I do with my mentor?

Previous mentors have offered to meet with mentee outside of the required settings, such as coffee or lunch near UCSD or at the mentor's workplace. Additionally, you can ask your mentor if you can be invited their presentations, committee meetings, shadowing, lab tours, office tours, and more. We want to remind you to take the most advantage out of our program and request for these additional opportunities, as they will be the most helpful to you.

Thank you for your interest!
