Water Works Tour

Are you interested in sustainability and conserving energy? Ever wondered how biomedical institutions get ultra pure water for research? What goes into engineering an energy-efficient and sustainable water purification system for research institutions?
ISPE will be hosting a tour of a research facility here on our own campus which carries one of Water Work’s water purification systems on Wednesday, May 22nd from 4-5 pm at Biomedical Research Facility II! BRF II which recently opened in 2014 earned a Platinum LEED Certification which is the highest ranking for implementing sustainable and green technologies allowing it to improve air quality, conserve water and energy.
Come check out one of the only two facilities which have received platinum LEED certification at UCSD, and learn about what goes into engineering a green design and function! See you there!

Come to our Bioengineering Lab tour and summer internship info session! During this ISPE-hosted event, grad students and PI’s will lead students through their labs, demonstrating some of their technologies and projects. We have multiple labs and summer internships available for your perusal. Time will be set aside afterwards to connect with grad students for tips and tricks of navigating academic research culture.
We will also go over bioengineering research done here at UCSD, lab and internship opportunities. If you're looking for inspiration for your project or just want to get involved with academia on campus, this event is for you! ALL majors are welcomed!

KGI Biotechnology Industry Bootcamp

Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) is coming to UCSD to host a fun and interactive bootcamp that is designed to introduce undergraduate students to career possibilities in the biotech industry. You will learn about the different career areas of biotech, many of which do not require a PhD, as well as graduate school options. You will also gain team-project experience where you will learn about a major biotech product invented in California. This event will be hosted by the Dean of Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Sciences at KGI, Dr. Dean Casper.

ISPE Project Team
Are you interested in getting hands-on experience in the biotech field? Professor John Newsam is one of ISPE's mentors for our mentorship program. He is also a professor here at UCSD in the Chemistry/Biochemistry department as well as the CEO of Tioga Research and Bio4Front.
Professor Newsam would like to offer the opportunity for two ISPE students to participate in a mini project (computational or online work) that he's putting together. He will construct a tailored project based on experience, interests, and skills of the two students.
