ISPE Dexcom Info Session

Dexcom is a premier medical device company specializing in continuous glucose monitoring. We brought Brian Lau to speak at the event. He is currently a process engineer at Dexcom who obtained his Bachelors degree in Bioengineering: Biomedical Devices from UCLA and his Masters degree in Bioengineering from UCSD. Brian spoke about the company, career paths/graduate school, as well as UPCOMING INTERNSHIPS at Dexcom. Brian also COLLECTED RESUMES! We provided free pizza!
Metronic Info Session
Date: Wednesday March 4th
Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m
Location: Fung Auditorium in PFBH
ISPE and TBP co-hosted an info session for Medtronic- the world's premier medical device company. This info session was highly relevant to mechanical, bio, electrical, and chemical engineers. Walt Baxter, Senior Principal Scientist at Medtronic Neurological, spoke about the company. There was also a Q and A session following the presentation.
2015 Second Winter GBM

Location: Fung Auditorium in PFBH
ISPE had its second GBM of the quarter! We hosted a "Speed Dating Night with Industry" during this GBM. Students networked with industry professionals from various different fields and some of the board members from our parent chapter, ISPE San Diego! This was a unique opportunity for attendees to meet professionals from diverse backgrounds in an informal setting and basically ask any questions they had regarding the working life, various industrial fields, etc.

Genentech Info Session
Date: Wednesday January 21
Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m
Location: Cymer Conference Center (in SME building)
Genentech came back this year, but with larger opportunities for anyone interested in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and etc. This event was a great networking opportunity and provided insight into Genentech's internship program, their general work environment, and more. All life science and engineering majors were welcomed to come learn more details from multiple Genentech representatives. This event was Genentech’s largest informational session at UCSD this year!
Genentech is often considered the founder of the biotechnology industry and remains one of the world's leaders in developing drugs for life-threatening conditions such as breast cancer. Today, Genentech serves as the US headquarters for the Roche Group.
2015 First Winter GBM

Join us for our first winter quarter GBM! Lou Obertreis came to speak, and he has extensive industry experience having worked at Baxter, Hewlett Packard, Invitrogen, Accumetrics, and Abbot Vascular Devices to name a few companies. Lou is currently an independent consultant for product manufacturing engineering and spoke about his industry experience and the transition to independent consulting.
2nd GBM/Career Development Workshop

ISPE helped students create their future with a night of Career Planning and Development at our second GBM! Lindsey Daniel and Chris Humphrey from CRB Engineers hosted a workshop to help students plan their career and teach them how to reach their potential. The workshop included a presentation on how to create SMART goals, how to plan a career and how to develop a career. The workshop also included a career planning exercise as well as development tools.
Genentech Informational Session

We had an informational session hosted by Genentech engineers and UCSD alumni regarding the Outstanding Student Award and their transition from UCSD to a top biotechnological company. This was a great opportunity to network, ask any questions in regards to working in industry, and learn more about Genentech or the biotechnological industry in general!
Resume Workshop
Date: Tuesday October 21
Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m
Location: BENG 161 (media room opposite Fung)
Engineers from Genentech and CRB gave an overview of what makes a good resume at our Resume Workshop. There was also a chance of one-on-one meeting with them after the presentation. Students received valuable opinions from REAL engineers and HR staff regarding what they want in a competent resume.
Research Position Workshop

Location: PFBH Conference Room 003 (BENG Basement)
Are you interested in working in a research lab? ISPE can help you out with that! Come get advice and suggestions from current lab researchers on where to look for a lab, how to approach a PI, the difference between wet labs and dry labs, prestigious research programs, and much more. Students were able to ask current students how they obtained their lab positions and whatever they wanted to know about.
